The Guitar Maker
In the early 1970’s Daniel Turner was a music student at the University of Toronto and the Royal Conservatory of Music when he decided to travel to Spain for the first time to study the flamenco guitar. During the two years that he lived in Andalusia and Majorca he had the great fortune of being able to learn the basics of traditional Spanish guitar construction from local craftsmen.
Although he travels almost every year to exhibit his instruments and art in North America, Europe and Asia, he spends most of his time in his workshop and studio on the West coast of Canada where he currently makes exotic custom-made guitars for players, fine instrument collectors, and flamenco aficionados around the world.
After hand-crafting each guitar, over a period of several months, he photographs it in his studio and personally prepares the images and limited-edition prints (see the Gallery) with the same artistic sensitivity and attention-to-detail that can be seen in his unique instruments.
